Me with my trophy for 'Batter of the year'
Friday May 7th was Devonshire Rovers Softball Club annual awards presentation. The theme for the event was ‘Casino Royale’, explaining the attire in the above picture.
The award ceremony started and there was an excitement in the air with all the players excited about the prospect of their names being called out for an achievement award. When it came to the awards in the division I play, I suddenly started to get nervous while trying not to show it (in case I didn’t get an award) and started to get a numbing sensation. I must admit its because I did expect to get the batter of the year award and was already picturing in my mind how I was gonna react when my name was called out. When my name was mentioned it was like everything around me went quiet… I could here my heart beating and feel my palms getting sweaty. It was as if the walk towards the stage was taking forever and when I finally got to collect my award it was as if there was no one else in the room, only me up on the stage collecting the award. It was only once I got back to my seat that everything else came back into focus, not like I imagined it in my mind.
The highlight for me receiving this award was seeing how proud my 3 sons were of their Dad when waking up next morning and seeing the trophy on display. I dedicate my achievement award to my sons who were supporting me at every game.
Rayaan on set preparing for his first photo shoot
Last week Saturday Rayaan was requested by his agent to go for a casting and did so. The photographer tried everything in his power to get Rayaan t0 smile and he just would not budge, the photographer then just decided to get the best pic he could.
Monday this week, the agent called to confirm that Rayaan was chosen as a feature in the ‘Mother’s Care’ catalogue to be published in the UK. We were naturally excited as this was his first casting he went for and got the featured role. At the same time Shameez and I were also concerned about how he would react on set as he can sometimes be very temperamental. To add to that, on the day of the photo shoot Rayaan woke up with a fever and we quickly took him to the doctor. He was diagnosed with a throat and ear infection and the doctor gave him some medication. When we got back home I laid hands on Rayaan and prayed to God to make him feel better, we then gave him his medication and made him to sleep. Knowing the God that I serve I was not anxious, on the contrary I was a peace confident that Rayaan would wake up feeling a whole lot better.
Needless to say Rayaan woke up his usual chirpy old self and off we were to set. Rayaan had a really good day and it showed in his pics, the photographer was also particularly impressed with Rayaan’s pics and indicated that he would like to use him in future shoots.
Everyday I see the hand of God at work in mine and my family’s life and I think back to the time when Shameez was pregnant with Rayaan. During that time I was still heavily addicted to drugs and my heart was hardened towards others including my wife and children and because of that I refused to bond with my unborn child. He was born on June 19, 2007 and a month later I met Jesus Christ and my life turned around and I started to look at life through new eyes. Since then we have become inseparable, he just would not let me out of his sight and I’m loving every minute of it.
Stay tuned as I’m inspired to share more about my journey… To God be all the glory for great things he has done!
I find myself lost in thought thinking about how proud I am of my 2 boys. This week I’ll be blogging about my 2 sons, Junaid and Bladen. They have recently started playing TeeBall in the under 10yr old division and yes Bladen only recently celebrated his 4th birthday.

TeeBall is a sport based on Baseball and is intended as an introduction for young players to develop baseball skills and have fun. The season kicked off 2weeks ago with a tournament where score was not kept and rules designed to maximize participation. Both of them had a great first game with Junaid hitting a homerun and Bladen believe it or not hitting a 3 bagger (ran to 3rd base). I thinks we have the next Babe Ruth in the making…

It’s really good to see my boys having so much fun and more than that I’m a part of their lives now! When I think back about 2 years ago I was just the father of these boys but now I’m their Dad. I can’t believe there was a time I thought I was better off not having my beautiful boys in my life because of my drug addiction.

My life is so different now and I can’t imagine not having “my clan” around. I absolutely love spending time with my boys and being Daddy to them and I look forward to many new adventures together.
