SA Blog Awards

Last night the RLabs team had the honour of being one of the finalists at theSouth African Blog Awards held at the One and Only Hotel in Cape Town. The event brought a wide range of bloggers, media personalities and other key people together to celebrate not just those who have been nominated as finalists but everyone who are making the online space a better place to be. So RLabs and one of its Start-ups She’s The Geek was nominated for awards that includedBest Group Blog (RLabs)Best Company Blog (RLabs) and Best Science and Technology Blog (She’s The Geek).

It came as a great surprise and much joy when we won all the awards we were nominated for and more so knowing that all the hard work and sacrifice by the people involved are finally being rewarded. These three awards we therefore dedicate to those in our communities who’ve decided to not let their circumstances silence their voices of hope. Rlabs in the Tech Report

Rlabs has again drawn interest from the media, this time etv‘s new show ‘Tech Report’ payed them a visit to get some footage and the story behind the success of RLabs.

The crew arrived and were surprised to find that RLabs only consisted of one room they are renting from Impact Direct, a community based organisation in Bridgetown.

They interviewed Marlon Parker, founder of Rlabs, a Social Entrepreneur and an Information Technology Lecturer at Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) since October 2000. Later on some of the staff were later interviewed, Craig (Innovations Manager) and Monique Ross (She’s The Geek) got to tell their amazing stories of how they overcame their drug addictions and the role RLabs is playing in their recovery.

Tech Report will be back on Saturday to get some more footage for their show, interviewing Marlon Parker again this time about his startup company, JamiiX. Be sure not to miss The Tech Report airing for the first time in the next 2 weeks.
